Medals and Ribbons

There are two types of medals, those awarded by KJC and those that can be designed and awarded by players.

A new awards section can be found in the profile tab which allows you to customise which medals and ribbons are shown to other people.
Ribbons are shown under your avatar on the forum, up to a maximum of six ribbons.
Medals are shown in the awards section.

Procedure to get existing medal added to your nexus account:
Submit a free special action for your political position.
This special action should include valid data regarding your request. For the long service medal we should be able to confirm the data from back-ups.
Example: Request for 5 Years Service Medal – I started in March 2005. The position number is (111).
Example: I am the Baron of Spritzer, please assign me the appropriate medal.

Medals Available for GM assignment

Years Service – awarded for overall time playing the game, i.e. if you played for two years back in the 90’s and have now been playing since 2007, you can request to have the 5 Years Service Honour.

2 Years 5 Years 10 Years 15 Years 20 Years

Continuous Service – this is only awarded where you never taken more than a few months break from the game (though could have changed affiliations), or have elected to only count the longest period of continued playing. In the above example, the player could elect to have 3 years continuous playing (2 medals) or the single 5 year honour.

Titles of Nobility

Baron/Duke/Grand Duke - these are awarded through standard special actions within the game. The land title is given by the Emperor – or similar GM controlled power. There will be some stipulations, but generally there is a large amount of stellars involved.
The title is granted based on the control of the player – claiming a system for example can grant the political the title Baron. A Duke would require multiple bases supporting bases in the same system or significant civilian support towards the system claim. The title of Grand Duke could be awarded to a political position controlling bases claiming multiple systems and it is generally required that the civilian populations support the claims. Where the systems are adjacent, the title will reflect the region of space. For example, a CNF player may own most of the Darkfold starbases with system claims – this could allow them to petition the Emperor for the title Grand Duke of Darkfold.
Another player with a few scattered starbases, each claiming systems might only be awarded the Title Grand Duke Wossisname.
Special Action:
Approach Emperor Lysander and lavish attention on him with gifts (100mu Hoolian Gems) and petition him for the honour Baron Dogleg as I control the starbase claiming the system.
Result:
The Emperor is very pleased with the gift and despite there being more than one claiming starbase, none of the others have been so swift to seek the Emperor’s blessing.
Only one Baron Dogleg can exist at any one time. If you lose control you can have your honour stripped from you or alternatively, your honour may be flagged as in-exile.
Establishing the office is a costly affair and will require the payment to the Emperor’s coffers. A free special action can be used to complete this action and have the title added to the character and appropriate medal awarded to your nexus account.

Baron Duke Grand Duke

In-exile – this honour may be requested by you or another appropriate person. For example, losing the controlling base to an enemy force would allow them to request that your honour is reflagged as in-exile.
An in-exile title may have some in-game kudos/enmity amongst the civilian populations or possibly require that there is still support for the exile by the civilian population.
The results of a special action may confirm that your political is historically associated with a location but is currently not controlling it – such a character could request that they have the in-exile version of the title.
Note that the GM may remove a title rather than assign the in-exile honour. For example, dropping a claim or transferring the base to another player would allow them to request that the title is also transferred along with the assets.

Pubmeet Attendee – If you can show you have attended you can request the honour. If we can remember that you have bought us a pint, we may even give you the nice gold version (not that we would be so shameless to promote cash for honours).

Muppet – If you can show that you have performed spectacular stupidity on a grand scale, you can request one of these. Such things as turning up at the wrong location for a battle and causing the rest of the fleet to be annihilated, or turning up late and facing the entire cavalry – alone.



Asteroid Inspector/Navigator’s Award – this can be requested once you have lost a ship to an asteroid field. The gold version is only awarded to squadrons and then only after multiple visits.

Death of Political – being responsible for the demise of another political position (any political, including your own). This can be through assassinations, blowing up the position the political was aboard (either through hostile acts or accidently hitting and asteroid field while he is in your cargo).

If a memorable event occurs players can create and award their own medals to commerorate the event.



Creating new medals
1. Decide what you want the medal for.
2. Petition the GM though a special action, including a $250,000 fee. This special action should include a title for the honour.
If the GM rejects your special action, he will not charge you for it, though it is generally unlikely that it will be denied providing that it is a reasonable request.
3. Once he has agreed it in principle, he will start a new thread in the medal forum for the artwork to be finalised.
4. Once it has been designed the thread will be closed and then the GM will grant the Admin the right to issue the medal as it sees fit.

Affiliations are restricted to one active medal design at a time and it may take several weeks to finalise the design.

We in the IMP are proud of our recent RIP Bashing and really want to award medals to the players that actively partook in the smashing of RIP ships, ground parties and bases. We wish to call it RIP Policing Action 209-210
Result:
The RIP Policing Action 209-210 has been established. This has cost $250,000.

There are several steps to creating your medal design.

1. Choose ribbon colours.

Ribbons are 65 pix wide, constructed in layers symmetrically.



with the first example there is a base layer of green, 65g representing 65 pixels of green. 65 is the full width of the medal. This first number should always be 65

next 30f, 30 pixels of blue placed on top of the green symmetrically from the centre

last 10w, 10 pixels of white down the centre.

start at the outside colour and build up layers to the middle.

2. Base colour bronze, silver or gold

There is room for 17 letters/numbers/spaces on text round the medal or 7 top 7 bottom and 7 across. More letters can be fitted if the text is reduced but it becomes difficult to read.
