The Detinus Games

With the end in sight, we return once again to our coverage of the Detinus Games!

Special Action/Lycosidae/Detinus Games/100 Metre Sprint/209

The contestants are lined up for this and all look pretty determined, though there has been a ruling against the Falconians and Cicindela has had her wings temporarily clipped.

The Vehrenberg entry has opted for an unusual athletics costume - apparently a habit cinched by a thick rope and sandals. He really will need divine help if he is to be in the running - no pun intended.

There are some lanky legged hive running for a few of the teams and our money is on them - though it is hard to tell without the stickers on their carapaces which is which without a pheromone translator.

They are under starter's orders and taking the position, that is except the monk who has merely lowered his head and started praying.

The gun fires, Cicindela has launched herself into the air in fright and has hit the overhead gantry - oh my God, the cables are coming down.

It has hit the sprinters just paces out of the blocks - somebody cut the power before they fry!

They are all down - no wait, the monk has finished his prayers and has started leisurely walking down the track.

Seems the True One really does move in mysterious ways, and House Vehrenberg is the winner!

RCF Under Attack

The Imperial navy has launched a strike against an RCF ore freighter in orbit of the Falconian home-world. From initial Falconian reactions, it does not seem as if this strike was sanctioned, though it is unlikely they will put up too much of a fuss.

The Detinus Games

A prompt investigation by the DTR authorities has failed to uncover any evidence of tampering of the overhead gantry at the recently held 100 meter sprint final, prompting one organiser to shrug their shoulders and announce that maybe it was an act of God after all.

Slightly more pragmatic observers continue to suspect black-ops involvement.

Happily however it seems as if most of the competitors have gotten away with only mild burns, and a medical spokesman reports that they are almost certain that nobody will die.

Vanus

Flagritz forces continue to assault the Felini outposts of Vanus-1 and Vanus-2, though recent reports indicate that they have called in some orbital artillery support from a Mk4 Hegemony Class capital ship.

Wolfpack

The dread pirate Wolfpack has held his 1 year anniversary party at the Wolfs Lair recently, proudly celebrating 55 vessels captured in 52 weeks - an impressive tally by anybodies count.

We are yet to hear a firsthand report of the celebrations, and ominously our reporter embedded with the Wolfpack is yet to make contact.

Duel At Tortuga

All manner of oddness has broken out around the recent duel challenge between the Baron LiQuan and Drake Takayama of the GTT. Rumours abound that the Baron has been temporarily detained by the Imperial Services at the behest of the Emperor-In-Waiting, Lysander, who apparently did not want his favoured advisor to be chopped into mince by the bookmakers favourite, Takayama.

However, the story gets stranger, with the Baron LiQuan now being widely referred to as 'Baron Brownpants', for his failure to attend the duel, which lead to Takayama claiming victory, and Bookmakers groaning, not to mention an apparent declaration of war from the HLQ against the GTT.

But given the Baron LiQuan appeared to be very very drunk whilst speaking from Imperial custody, we at the IGN newsroom are not sure if the declaration of war can be taken seriously or not.

Were They Even At War Anyway?

Imperial Press Release:

Consul of the Falconian Republic, Goshawk, and Ike Krieger, Viceroy of the IMPerial Services have reached an agreement after minutes of exhaustive debate! Why are we at war? Why are we fighting? What kind of fighting is this, a slap fight between sorority girls? Does anyone remember why? Since no one can remember why the IMP-FCN war of ages ago is still only held at bay by a meagre Cease-Fire, using the wisdom of the owls, Ike and Goshawk have agreed that Peace makes far more sense than Cease-Fire. From this moment on let there be Peace everlasting between the Falconian Republic and the Stellar Empire. This electronic document and public broadcast will have to serve as our formal agreement until Ike and Goshawk can meet in person and sign the symbolic paper documents.

Ike Krieger
Viceroy Imperial Services.

Agent Actions

Following recent reports of agent actions at a number of DTR starbases, it seems as if the plaque has spread to IMP facilities. Though it seems as if the IMP have a fair idea of who is behind it, and have threatened retaliation.

MacDud Travel Advisories

Attention:

Effective today the orbit of MacDud in the Kasmer system is under Imperial quarantine following an episode, shipping is hereby restricted to IMP/GTT/DEN and FET positions. All active markets will cease to trade openly from this point, ships not of the affiliations mentioned have until the end of the week to move about their business after which they shall be selectively targeted and destroyed, no compensation will be paid. This is your one and only warning.

The following positions will be destroyed on Monday, I rather suggest you move. No compensation will be paid, bitch and whine all you like for all I care, you have had ample time and warning.

RIP Press Release

Greetings,

The RIP are is deep discussions on how we can take on board recent suggestions in order to prove we are both trustworthy and honourable.

These discussions are ongoing ... and will be continuing for a number of days yet.

Once completed we will publish the results here.

I would like to thank the FCN and DTR for their suggestions and assistance.

Thank you.

Pirate Outpost Captured

The Falconian Republic is announcing the capture of a pirate outpost this week:

"Greetings,

A PIR outpost at an asteroid in the Curly system was captured today by Hawk Special Forces. It contained amongst a number of basic supplies an odd assortment of slaves which will be freed at a more hospitable location.

The slaves were Falconian, Human, Felini, Flagritz, Krell, Kastorian and Naplian in origin. The defending troops were human soldiers and veteran human marines.

Goshawk."

Prince Lysander

Greetings one and all

This momentous event will be happening in the week before the yearly get together.
Week commencing 16th November at House LiQuan on Masda in the Fortress system.

Transport can be arranged for all, Has everyone is invited to attend this great occasion.

All confederate and Imperial block affiliations have knowledge to get there, has do the MOH the Princes favourite.
If transport can't be obtained by any one these please contact the myself and I will arrange transportation from our base in Yank.

Security for this occasion is being handled by Mr Laton of the CIA.
Any requests concerning this are to be directed to him.

Baron LiQuan

Lady Isabella Secudus

The press is abuzz this week as news of Lysanders bride to be has finally been unveiled in the following Imperial press release:

"The daughter of the famous Imperial Admiral Secudus, responsible for
decisive action against the Tate and Detinus rebels. (An Imperial mega hero)
Much of her life has been spent in the Peripheries.

She has received the most sophisticated training in all aspects of politics,
society and history that the Imperial Services has to offer.

Just the girl to navigate the pitfalls of an Imperial Court."

News agencies within the Detinus Republic have raised more than a few eyebrows at this, as from their perspective the 'decisive action against the Tate and Detinus rebels' involved rather a lot of orbital bombardment of civilian population centres and widespread torture and murder.

It is probably no co-incidence that some of the more scurrilous Detinus tabloid news agencies have been running a series of photographs allegedly of the Lady Isabella failing to fit into her wedding dress.

IND Destroyed

The IND caravel class freighter the Let's See, has been destroyed in orbit of Dressler in the Aladdin system by a Falconian patrol.

IND Vessels are reminded they are not allowed in any Falconian claimed systems.

DTR Statement To The House

Senators, Speaker of the House, esteemed sentients of the Peripheries.

As you might be aware forces of the DTR Stellar Patrol have recently been engaged in detecting and capturing a hidden asteroid base belonging to Pirate Large in the Titan system.

Uncovering this base was a long and arduous effort, requiring the construction of a 2000 hulled platform in the D-14 orbital quadrant.

Throughout this operation, the Imperial Services, with whom we were working closely, declared D-14 strictly off limits, and actively engaged all trespassers. Notice of this was widely broadcast across all media services.

It did not take long for the pirates to become aware of the presence of a large number of APTF warships in the quadrant, and they started to tickle our defences with a few scouts. The following vessels were destroyed by the platform:

Date 16.4: PIRATE SHIP GHOST OF TITAN A (97063)
PIRATE SHIP COURIER GALAXY (97363) - {20 Normal Hulls}

It was at this point that we realised that the pirates must have known we were onto the location of their hidden base. Which is why we raised an eyebrow when the following turned up in D14 a short whilelater:

Star Date 209.18.1

RIP SHIP MIDNIGHT ARRIVAL (93071) - {100 Light Hulls} - Attacking
RIP SHIP MIDNIGHT EXPRESS (3917) - {100 Light Hulls} - Attacking
RIP SHIP MIDNIGHT DELIVERY (53520) - {100 Light Hulls} - Attacking
RIP SHIP MIDNIGHT DISPATCH (57365) - {100 Light Hulls} - Attacking
RIP SHIP MIDNIGHT COLLECTION (61975) - {100 Light Hulls} - Attacking
RIP SHIP MIDNIGHT HAULER (88293) - {100 Light Hulls} - Attacking
RIP SHIP MIDNIGHT TRANSPORTER (95278) - {100 Light Hulls} -

A number of these vessels were successfully engaged and destroyed, but the rest were able to run the gauntlet. An attempt was made to track them to the hidden asteroid base, but due to the difficult sensor environment that is the Titan system, this was unsuccessful.

We might have considered the presence of this many RIP freighters to be a co-incidence, were it not for the occasion a few days later when the following were also engaged whilst attempting to run the gauntlet of D-14:

Date 18.3:

RIP SHIP BESSIE (52516) - {50 Light Hulls} - Attacking
RIP SHIP BRIGHT BUTTON (75099) - {50 Light Hulls} - Attacking
RIP SHIP BOREDOM (31123) - {50 Light Hulls} - Attacking

And then yet again:

Date 19.1:

RIP SHIP COCKNEY GEEZER (47114) - {20 Normal Hulls} - Attacking

It seems clear to us that the RIP were either employed by Pirate Large or Wolfpack to assist in evacuating the hidden asteroid base, which we now know to have been named Ocracoke Island, or they were providing their assistance for free as an act of friendship and support towards the pirates.

A few days later it seemed as if they had finally learnt their lesson not to keep using RIP vessels, as PIR freighters started to arrive in large numbers:

Date 20.3:

Targeting PIRATE Krabby (52578):
Targeting PIRATE Krabby (40997):
Targeting PIRATE Krabby (71487):
Targeting PIRATE Krabby (22752):

It is our belief that we only intercepted the tip of the iceberg in terms of vessels that were transiting D14, as we strongly suspect heavy cloaking activity was going on - a belief supported by the fact that when we finally detected Ocracoke Island, we found the remains of what was clearly a major pirate shipyard and construction base, quite possibly Pirate Larges main base of operations, that had been stripped of all useful materials and renamed 'Pirate Large Was 'Ere'. Also DTR patrol vessels detected a number of RIP freighters loitering in neighbouring orbital quadrants, which again points towards cloaking activity.

Senators, fellow sentients, I put it to you that the RIP stand guilty of providing material support and assistance to the Pirates, of evacuating Pirate Larges main base of operations right out from under the noses of a combined DTR/IMP/GTT/SMS/FCN Anti-Piracy Task Force. I put it to you that for too long now the RIP have been skirting the edges of what is lawful and decent, and that finally they have shown their hand as the front for large-scale piracy that they are.

Senators, Speaker of the House, I put the motion to you that unless the RIP immediately reveal where they evacuated Ocracoke Island too, that we publicly declare them to be a Pirate Organisation and ban them from DTR space.

I have spoken to the Imperial Viceroy, and he stands ready to take similar measures against the RIP within Imperial space, and I would hope that the Commonwealth as a whole might take similar action.

Yours,

Cassius Jerusalem. DTR Foreign Minister.

A vote on this issue then proceeds on the floor of the Detinus Senate, and is carried 'yay' by all hands.

Pressure Mounts On RIP

IGN sources within both Imperial and Falconian news agencies have told us that a ban on RIP positions within their respective spaces is imminent too, on top of the proposed DTR ban.

And while the DTR ban is largely symbolic - the number of RIP positions seen routinely in and around DTR space is relatively low - the ban by the IMP and FCN would be far more serious, threatening several major RIP facilities.

A further source has indicated the GTT may already be planning a major operation against RIP holdings.

Whatever happens, it seems as if the very survival of the RIP is at stake, unless they can come up with some sort of information that appeases the wolves at their door. Though the RIP continue to state their innocence of any involvement in piracy.

Abolishing Indentured Servitude

With political pressure also mounting on him, the Baron LiQuan has moved to try and quell the increasing clamour against his use of indentured servants at his starbases - an act which is tantamount to slavery according to several Periphery governments, including the IMP/FCN/GTT/DTR/etc.

The baron has issued the following statement:

I have instructed my expert in Human Socio-Political Manipulation Prof. Victor Devitt to conduct a study into the best way to solve this problem.
His lengthy report goes into detail about the system and how it works.

Currently the law is such that anyone ending up in debt can have his (or
her) debt turned over to a legal work management scheme. These effectively
pay off the debt on behalf of the person and then set the person to labour,
collecting their wages until such times as they are paid.
They must provide housing and shelter.
In the case of criminals, instead of a prison sentence they can be given a
fine to be paid to the state. This effectively dealt with in the same
manner though there are government enforced labour management schemes.

This systems helps keep people out of the prisons so lowering the number needed saving tax payers stellars.
It also generates an income from the legal management scheme.
Changing this system will create a large cost to local the population has criminals will now have to be sent to prison.
more prisons will have to be built, manned and maintained.
The cost of living will increase has local manufactures will lose cheap labour and will have to pass the cost on to
the customer.

This can of course be done, it will mean doing an extensive program of re educating the local populations so they can adjust to
having this system removed, and absorbing the downside to the standard of living to "one of those things".

This will take a great deal of time when the re educating is done it will take 3-5 years to become fully effective.

The scale of this project is huge and will take a very long time to achieve unaided.
Has the population of Jericho number over 56,000,000 and Masda over 14,000,000.
That is only the Fortress system, it does not include the systems of the inner confederacy.
HLQ will start on the project next week I have already issued the orders to get the ball in motion.
I am more than willing to go alone but that would take me close to 20 years to complete.
That being the case I am more than willing to except help from the galactic community in this matter.
You can contact me direct with your pledge or contact me on this channel if you wish to help.

Baron LiQuan.

It remains to be seen if this will help the Barons case, as several observers have commented to us in the press that there are two issues at stake here - one with planetary populations, and the other with workers at starbases - and that it would be relatively easy for the Baron to free and/or start paying the workers at his starbases.

Well, we say relatively easy, it would probably bankrupt the HLQ. Particularly after those horribly expensive palaces he built for Lysander and his bride-to-be.

Fancy Dress?

With the annual DTR Halloween celebrations gearing up, several reporters have caught site of the Detinus Speaker Sivar and Foreign Minister Jerusalem dressed up as pirates, leading to a few red faces amongst the Detinus Press Corp.

Breaking News

Sources indicate there has been an accidental weapons discharge in orbit of Egghead. More details to follow.

To the GTT, With Hugs And Kisses

The DLO accuses the GTT of SLAVERY of both the Krell and the Wimbles. Claiming their systems and forcing them to live under the laws imposed by the GTT amounts to involuntary subjugation. The GTT exploits the resources of the systems of these two races without asking permission or offering any compensation. The KRL and WMB are both powerless to object. This control amounts to slavery.

We call upon freedom loving races of the peripheries to stand up to the GTT. Return control of these systems to the sentient indigenous peoples who deserve the right to determine their own destinies, free of external control, coercion or exploitation.

We call on the GTT to turn over all assets within these systems to the indigenous races or to negotiate fair trade agreements. Free those under your yoke of oppression.

The DLO.

The Detinus Games

Welcome back to the closing days of the Detinus Games, where we have the last two events for you to enjoy. First up, Hunting The Uberfleet.

The rules of this game are quite straightforward. Using their initiative, wits and no outside help, the contestants are to locate the fleet of 25 shuttles, representing the uber fleet, that are landed somewhere in the forests of Lycosidae.

Various clues have been placed around the forests but it is not just a question of running around as fast as they can. There are also picket ships that have the ability to eliminate the contestants from the game.

The siren has sounded and the competitors are off. Most appear to be keeping to the valley, just getting distance from the start, while a few are heading towards higher ground. We are using thermal imaging to follow them as the forest is dense and penetrating the canopy with optical sensors is proving difficult.

Kamar K'takh of the Mohache has halted in the middle of the open path. He seems to looking around in consternation. Now he is sprinting off the path and has dived behind a fallen tree. What is he up to?

He keeps lifting his head and ducking it back down. Has he seen something? Now he has taken a great interest in something closer, something on the trunk that seems to have amused him as he is giggling. He is rummaging in his backpack, probably for a hand scanner - no, wait, it appears to be a sandwich... Well, let's catch up on the other contestants shall we?

Magpie appears to be making good time, flying across small but very fast flowing rivers. Handy being avian, isn't it - but wait, he has crashed into something and appears to be hanging in midair. We will have to wait until we get a ground crew down there to see what has happened.

McKeeg of the IMP has snaked his way to the top of a small treeless hill and is sweeping the land with his binocs. He seems to be talking to himself - can we get a transcript? Yes, "platforms, my arse, that fat little space weeble was smacked of his face." With a final grunt he sets off, I think that he has spotted the elevated radiation emissions from one of the unnatural clearings just north of the start.

The OPS contestant is definitely on the right track, though how he knows is a mystery to me as he doesn't appear to be using any equipment - I will turn you over to the xeno-biology expert for an explanation.

“Well, as we all know, the hive are subterranean dwellers and for millions of years have happily lived largely in complete darkness. They find their way through the use of taste buds on their forelegs, pheromones in the air and we have recently discovered ultra-low frequency noise carried through the ground. No doubt he can hear the sound of the fleet's idling engines from hundreds of kilometres away.”

Sometime later... following a number of messages from our beloved sponsors…

Seems Magpie has discovered a large web spinner - didn't know there were any on this world. The ground team - now looking somewhat nervous - are filming him trussed up in the tree - did somebody say turkey? He is calling foul. This will have to be investigated.

The OPS steps out from behind an outcrop clearly pleased to be first to find the fleet, but disappointingly is blasted by a lone shuttle. Seems his feet have led him down the wrong path.

Others have been eliminated and only a few now remain, though the Mohache hasn't left his place behind the fallen tree and has fallen asleep, surrounded by various empty food containers. I don't even think he brought a scanner. Only IMP McKeeg and the DTR are in it now, though technically Magpie and Kamar are still participating.

From our vantage points we have tracked them both as they avoided the pickets and other hazards, picket up ion trails and the occasional emf burst from the fleet. The DTR however has not detected the picket in the hanging valley to his left and he should be coming into range any second - there, but wait, it is a miss and he is diving off a bank into a river. Some more shots, but he is evading - seems like he has an inertial damper all of his own.

There he goes over a waterfall - ouch, that's gonna hurt in the morning, but he has entered the clearing where the fleet has been stationed mere seconds before McKeeg steps over the crest of the hill to the south. While the DTR arrived first the way in which they arrived may give the judges some discretion.

This is definitely a matter for debate.

Who will be given third place? Kamar is still fast asleep though we have been informed that Magpie was trapped by a stealth net and that there are human foot imprints around the trap site.

We now have it on authority from the judges that there was a thumper at the picket ship that took out the OPS.

Seems somebody in a chameleon suit has been causing shenanigans across the entire gaming area. We’re going to have to pass this one over to the judges for adjudication. Oh, and wait! One of the judges has just shimmered and vanished. Apparently a member of the independent adjudication team was in possession of a chameleon suit!

Curse those independents!

What this means we do not know. But here come the ever alert DTR security forces to arrest, well… there seem to be a lot of them, and they seem to be arresting everybody. Including the competitors. And most of the foliage. No wait, they’re just blasting some clear zones for shuttles to disembark carrying, yes, you guessed it, more security forces! We’re not sure we’ve seen this many startroopers combat-dropping in years, anybody would think the DTR military don’t have anything to do these days.

Well, we’re going to have to wait and see what the DTR authorities have to say about this one. With any luck it won’t take a three year Senate Oversight Enquiry Committee to agree a course of action.

Oh, and here is the result. In triplicate. That was fast.

McKeeg of the IMP is declared joint-victor, along with the DTR competitor, the OPS, Magpie of the FCN and Kamar of the WMB, giving us five winners of this event! It seems the DTR have decreed that everybody left standing (Or sitting in a happy daze, or suspended in a giant spiderweb, as the case may be) deserves a victory.

They’re going to have to build a bigger podium!

Goshawk Resigns

The leader of the Falconian Republic has announced his shock decision to resign from public life this week:

"Senators, friends, fellow Falconians, I hereby step down from the office of Consul and retire from a public life. To have served the Republic has been an honour but now it is time for others to lead. Aedile Armand of House Magpie will act as Consul until elections are held. I trust the wisdom of House Owl will ensure a smooth transition."

Aedile Armand has issued the following statement:

“Armand of House Magpie will be taking over as acting Consul pending democratic elections for a new consul.
It is intended that business will continue as normal in the interim period. Anyone with deals they are concerned about may contact me by PM
The Falconian republic are very grateful for the astute leadership of Goshawk which has seen a number of new nests established and diplomatic relations strengthened.”

Detinus Games – Grand Finale!

Thanks for tuning in folks to this last exciting event before they finally close the curtains on these terrific and largely bloodless games.

A word of thanks to the Aquaphid civilians for all the caviar we could eat (though where they got that extra batch from without a delivery is somewhat disconcerting).

We end these games with the final few games in the round-robin-7-a-side. OPS are currently in the lead, thanks to an early tactic of spinning webs in the goalposts. This resulted in a rules amendment after much petitioning.

The Imperials are neck and neck with Vehrenberg. The Imperials would be ahead but their star player was revealed as a Meklan when a magnetized ball hit it in the face and caused it to recite the legendary book of zero-g sexual positions. This has sparked a serious debate amongst the contestants as to who in the Imperial team was responsible but more importantly does a Meklan actually have genitalia?

Anyway, back to the games.

We have three games still to go and while the OPS are currently in the lead, they have played all their games, which means a win by the IMP or the HVB will put them in front while a win by the CIA could put them in second if both the IMP and HVB lose their matches. Goal difference however could still push the FCN and FEL up into second if they both win and give their opposites a drubbing.
CIA and DTR
HVB v FCN
IMP v FEL

Over in the CIA v DTR is looking pretty good for the CIA. They do seem to be catching the DTR unaware and have hammered a few past the goalie as he seems a bit distracted.

The DTR have used their mob tactic to crowd the ball and despite giving away a few free kicks are largely holding their own even if it now looks unlikely that they will win.

The Falconians are having an easier time of it against the Vehrenbergs, mainly because the latter are two men down. Apparently they called a jihad on Screech, the Falconian goalie. He was severely plucked and close to getting a stuffing before the game was stopped and security called in.

The IMP and Felini appear evenly matched and as we turn to the game, we find that they are -all. The IMP are going in hard, preferring jackboots to trainers, though the nimbleness of the Felini has saved their bare feet from a good kicking. The Felini goalie however has had a few scrapes and the area around the goal is slick with ichors though we cannot determine whether this is coming from a split carapace or its feeders. It has refused treatment, though we suspect it would even if it had lost one of its appendages.

We hear that the Falconian game is in its final minutes and they are winning eight: three, largely thanks to some heavy hitter such as Mungo the Krell and some deft crosses by Cicindela.

There's the whistle, which puts the FCN in second place on goal difference for the moment.

A grand slam home by the CIA, though the DTR goalie appears to be mimicking an ape - this will need looking into. And that's the final whistle, six: five. That goal was decisive as it pushes the CIA into first place though currently on goal difference it looks like the IMP may still push them down to 3rd even if they do not win.

Ronnie James Dion for the IMP punts a long cross, which has been picked up by the forward in the dying seconds and he strikes. It hits the crossbar, Ronnie sweeps in and slides, he catches the ball and defender Puss Darkclaw. They have both gone down and have come to a halt half over the goal line just as the whistle blows.

The ref has judged it not to be a goal and people are not happy - the pitch is being invaded, there are some serious punches being thrown and fur is flying. Well that just about concludes our commentary on this year's events, and the winner of the 7-a-side is... hold on you can't come in here - hey put that down.. security...

Storm Press Release

An open letter to the GTT, IMP AND IMP-(And to all members of the Steller Empire.

After consulting with our officers and the citizens on Planet Gale in Storm, we all agree that as much as we dislike any form of systems claims, this is one we approve of and intend to support.

We're in the process of turning the barren planet Gale into a liveable, breathable planet. The prior Administration of the IDC started it, and have a couple suburban areas already. Our Vines are ready to plant.

In the past we had considered selling out because we distrusted the stability of Storm. If anyone cares to ask around you'll find out that this is what we hoped for the most, though we had figured it would be the FCN.

Let this proclamation come as a warning to a few, in that; The IDC intends to support and defend the IMP Block in all matters in the Storm System. This proclamation does not apply anywhere else. We will not involve ourselves in the KRT/KRL ongoing conflicts. But we will defend and support and protect (to our ability) any IMP Block ships/starbases and outposts within Storm, without prejudice to other affiliations.

I (speaking for our affiliation) consider this a great move. It is a step forward and in the right direction. Good luck to the GTT, FET and IMP.

Reports indicate the vessel was captured in the outer reaches of the Storm system – a system widely recognised as being a hive of scum and villainy.

Sources within the Imperial command hierarchy have suggested to reporters that this vessel may have been a hold-over of vessels belonging to the disgraced former Patrol Commissioner Gandolph, who was exposed as the dread Pirate Large. Which would seem to suggest that the IMP navy is riddled with ex-pirate officers.

The Imperial Viceroy himself has been quoted, “Gandolph was responsible for training half the IMP fleet, we would have to ground half the fleet if we wanted to clean out every last officer formerly under Gandolph's control.”

RIP Respond To Allegations

Thank you.

GT Spugman

Xenomorph Infestation?

Falconian armed forces have this week dealt with an illegal IND outpost on the planet Segundo. Following a failure to ground assault the facility, it appears an orbital bombardment was called in to flatten the place.

The confusing thing however is that scattered comms transmissions from the ground force seem to indicate they ran into something unexpected, which necessitated their rapid withdrawal followed by the excessive application of orbital weaponry.

DTR Documents Leaked

Special Action/Yank/Lunk Defence/209.43
The DTR contact the KAS regarding the lack of a platform in orbit of Lunk
and therefore the danger of pirates as a result.
The Junta informs them that should pirates enslave some of the malformed,
inbred genetic dead ends that are the populace of that failed world, then
so be it.
Not quite the result that the governor was expecting as he was under the
impression that the platforms were for the protection of the non-rent
paying, resource exploiting and civilian wealth tapping affiliations that
have constructed undefended bases and outposts throughout the system.

Fury In Egghead

A chaotic scene erupted in the Egghead system as Imperial forces launched a series of random assaults against SMS targets. The battles continued over the course of two days as desperate Imperial commanders struggled to issue ceasefire orders to what can only be described as over-enthusiastic ship captains who just kept blazing away.

It is estimated at least 4 Imperial vessels were destroyed during the engagement, which somehow managed to avoid dragging in nearby AFT facilities.

Many sighs of relief were heard as all of the starbases involved were under heavy shielding, otherwise the damage could have been a lot worse.

Imperial commanders have admitted the incident was the result of an accident on their part, and we assume they will be paying full reparations to the SMS. Though the question still needs to be asked exactly why the IMP had a vessel with SMS on their active enemy lists in the first place.

Drake Takayama Missing

Press Release
From the offices of Drake Takayama
Star Date 209.44.2

It is our sad duty to report that Drake Takayama, Director of Exploration of the GTT, has gone missing. He was last seen onboard his personal ship, in orbit of Dogleg (208), Capellan System (1), where he was supposed to fight a duel against Baron Liquan. After receiving an encoded message a few days ago, mr. Takayama left the ship without informing the crew of his intended destination. We do not know whether he moved to another ship or used a hiport to go down to one of the starbases on the planet. Also, we cannot confirm or deny the rumors that the message received by mr. Takayama prior to his disappearance came from Baron Liquan. Any information about mr. Takayama's whereabouts will be much appreciated, but considering that he has been unaccounted for since 209.43.4 this is now officially being treated as a Missing in Action case.

Wolfpack Activity

Heavy Wolfpack activity has been reported in the Lewis system, where multiple Wolfpack elements have been spotted skirmishing with patrol forces.

An Imperial battlegroup dispatched to the system has so far failed to make contact with the enemy.

Baron LiQuan Implicated In MURDER!

The IGN newsroom has uncovered more information regarding the mysterious disappearance of Drake Takayama. An anonymous source identifying himself only as a ‘Concerned Indentured Servant’ has contacted us with information that Takayama didn't simply disappear, that in fact he was murdered.

Our informant continues with more details: ‘Baron Liquan contacted him saying he would send a Ship to take the GTT Director to a secret location where they could have their Duel without interference. Drake believed him and embarked on that Ship, only to be sent directly into an Asteroid belt. Now the Ship is gone, Drake Takayama is Dead, and the Baron gets away Free. Someone should do Something about that man.’

Wolfpack Targets IMP Shipping

Sources close to the Wolfpack leadership have indicated to IGN reporters that the pirate company are now being paid specifically to go after Imperial targets. Thus explaining the spike in recent pirate activity against IMP shipping.

There is as of yet no indication as to who might be paying the Wolfpack.

Inner Empire

Rumours are beginning to surface throughout the Inner Empire that seem to suggest the Imperial authorities are preparing to take military action against a number of third parties. Several civilian authorities throughout the Inner Empire have reacted negatively to this, seeing it as the first step towards the Imperial-bloc re-instating the Imperial Yoke upon increasingly secessionist planetary populations.

IMP Markets

Several imperial markets have closed due to an influx of high value trade goods. Traders are recommended to check market status before making any long trips.

Letter To The Editor

Dear Mr Editor,

The SMS would like to thank and commend the IMP for the speedy resolution of
reparation and related matters that followed the unfotunate incident over
Egghead recently.

Regards,

Mikhail Morgan, SMS

Recruitment Message

Greetings Captain,

Are you worthy to serve the Confederacy and shape the very fabric of the Peripheries like the great men who precede you? Tired of shuttling some stale goods from one backwater base to another and calling that fun? Do you believe its your True One given right to rule vast numbers of star systems and serve in command of one of the most powerful fleets in the galaxy? Do you tire of the company of lesser men and inferior aliens? Do you wish to be a part of a noble tradition and an affiliation that has helped shape so much of Phoenix history?

If you answered yes to any of the above, believe that a man's private business is his own, enjoy a brandy and a fine cigar and good ol' fashioned manners and hospitality, then is it not time you joined the Confederate Forces?

Only the ambitious, superior and honourable need apply.

Yours warmly,

General Ulysses F. Scott

The Confederate Forces (CNF) are the government and military of the Confederacy, with a vast number of systems, numerous starbases and one of the largest fleets in the Peripheries. Born in the succession wars after the death of Emperor Paul, the Confederates have now secured their way back to the war ravaged home systems of humanity where they rule jointly as part of the Triumvirate Council of the Commonwealth.

The CNF is a Stratocracy led by Supreme Commander Jackson and the generals and nobility that form the CNF Command Council. A strong sense of tradition and discipline means once the CNF has settled on a path, they work in unison to achieve their goals whether it takes days, months, years or even decades.

The CNF has shaped many of the major events in the Peripheries over the past fifteen years from daring raids into Imperial space during the war with the famous Rolling Thunder fleet, opening the way back home towards Sol, recovering the body of Emperor Paul, revealing the nature of his relationship to his sons Jasil and Samuel and most recently forging the new peace that secures the right of return under a separate but equal government under a shared Emperor.

Now is the time for salty captains, tough lieutenants and genius commanders to forge a new history. The home systems of humanity cry out for the wise and iron rule of Confederate generals and vast areas of space are here to be explored and colonized by those who have the mettle to serve the Confederacy. Behind you, you will find one of the great powers of the Peripheries with all the resources and opportunities you'd expect.

The CNF is for those who are not content with picking scraps from the table of others, those who would rather shape the history of Phoenix rather than witness it from a distance and those who relish the opportunity to work within an organised team structure to achieve monumental goals whose effects will be felt for years and whose architects have their names written in the annals of history. Follow in the footsteps of Roswell, McGovern, Jackson, Fetlock, Dash, Demitri. Houston...great leaders who shaped the fate of millions.

Join the Confederate Forces (CNF) - where nobility and power unite in thunder and steel to reclaim our rightful inheritance.

RIP In Hot Water

Continuing their recent trend of being in trouble with everybody and their granny, the RIP have fallen foul of the Confederate authorities following the detection of an illegal RIP outpost in the Fetlock system.

The RIP were fined 30,000 stellars, which we understand they were happy to pay, along with issuing a full apology.

Heaven help the RIP if they ever annoy the dread Mohache/Wimble alliance.

Sargasso

There have been unexpected visitors this week in the Sargasso system, secretive home of the RIP and long rumoured to be the hidden territory of all manner of ne’er do wells, a den of villainy, hive of malcontents, oh, and the SMS are apparently in there too. But it is not the SMS who were the unexpected visitors. Instead our newsroom has received reports that a CIA spook class Scout, the Newstones, was destroyed by the RIP platform Homeworld Defence Grid.

Long understood to be an impenetrable fortress with very controlled access points, the RIP can surely not be too happy to see some uninvited visitors.

Speculation is mounting that the CIA vessel deliberately let itself be seen and destroyed, to send a message to the RIP leadership. There is further speculation that the CIA might be hunting for the Empress Sarah.

From the DTR Historical Department:

The Empress Sarah.

Pocket Battleship - Basically an enlarged version of the Patrol Cruiser, the Pocket
Battleship design sacrifices a little speed for a considerably bigger main section
allowing it to pack an impressive firepower. It is smaller than the Dreadnought
class that appeared in the peripheries at the same time, but still considerably
faster. The design appears to be a predecessor to today's specialized warship
designs, being only slightly smaller and slightly slower than these. When it first
appeared, it was second only to the Dreadnought class in firepower and combat
potential among all human warship designs.
Only one Pocket Battleship ever appeared in the peripheries, where it changed hands
a number of times and eventually ended up in RIP hands. The RIP Empress Sarah (1001) is now probably one of the most well-known starships in the peripheries.

Press Release

Press Release
From the offices of Blake Ravenstone
Star Date 209.45.2

In a simple ceremony today at Port Scheherazade, the title Baron Kalahari was awarded to Blake Ravenstone, CEO of the Ravenstone Exploration & Development (RED) and Director of Exploration of the Galactic Trade & Transport (GTT). The new Baron made a short speech, in which he thanked Prince Lysander for this honour and reassured the people of the Wastelands about his commitment towards long term prosperity in the system.

Wormhole Rumours

Horrifying reports are reaching our news-room of a new wormhole having been detected somewhere in the Peripheries. Apparently it has been named ‘Al Bundy’s Hole’, and has already served passage to supra-freighters, warships, and in one instance a vessel carrying over 2000 colonists is understood to have made use of Al Bundy’s Hole.

We are now going to go and scrub our brains out with bleach.

Please nobody provide any video evidence.

With 3 enemies damaged and 2 destroyed, Wolfpack forces are reporting no casualties themselves. Although we believe at time of press that the Wolfpack ships still have to disengage from the combat in one piece, as surely heavy GTT re-enforcements will be rushing to the scene.

**Message From The Editor**

Please note the Nexus has had a shiny new update, with lots of new features. And I understand that with this major update to the internet in place, the focus is now going to shift towards the creation of new game content.

All very exciting. Hopefully we will have some interesting reports from goings-on at the pubmeet soon. Mica posted this short summary in news, which I shall repeat here for those of you who don’t regularly check the Nexus:

***

I don’t want to give too much away as this will lead to a pre-pubmeet discussion/argument/flame-fest and those things are best resolved at the meet itself.
The purpose of this open comment is really just so that those that are not attending can make sure that they have primed their attending advocates.
We will make presentations and invite feedback.
We really can’t stress the need for feedback enough – the pubmeet is your opportunity to meet us face to face and put your stamp on the game. We invariably take away from the meet a great deal of advice and we are able to thrash out issues that linger or get sidetracked on the forum, seemingly for months.
This year there are three presentations:
Halo
Yes, the rumours are true, we are introducing a entire new Periphery into the game.
The purpose of this is manifold; a place for factions to explore, trade and skirmish on a relatively level playing field under the seemingly benevolent though often inattentive overlords.
It is also going to be the main route for new players wanting to get a feel for the game without encountering the shoot-on-sight/no-entry policy adopted by established affiliations.
Politics
The freedom to do anything is proving to be the chains that stymie everything. Everybody has got what nobody has wanted.
The pubmeet will initiate a discussion to find a means of breaking this stranglehold on the game.
We will be holding private hearings on this subject, i.e. let the GM know your plans so that he can incorporate them into the game development. We will not intentionally pull the rug out from under an affiliation’s feet.
Characters
We will be combining officers, agents, operatives and politicals into their own feature. We will be presenting them with skills. We will also expand the uniqueness of bases, resources (including mineral deposits) and finally returning affiliation abilities to the game.
Characters also have far reaching implications for bases, exploration, missions and research.
Now is the time then to present us with your list of unique areas you want us to include in the game.

***

Also, please know that your friendly neighbourhood Editor is going on his holidays to Los Angeles this week, and I won’t be back until the 14th of December.

(This is the first holiday I’ve been on in over 25 years.)

At this point I have no idea how much internet/computer time I will have, so I honestly don’t know if I’ll be able to keep doing the Newsletter while I’m away. So there might be a guest editor next week. Or a shorter edition from yours truly.

Please try not to blow up my positions while I’m away.

Simon.

Claims settle in Solo and Faery

With the NHS bringing in almost a million troops into Solo and the GTT choosing it's moment to contest Faery at the same time, it seems the DTR and it's alllies either found it hard to find enough troops to respond or quite simply decided it wasn't worth the hassle as there were far more important matters to deal with in the Senate. Who knows what other life threatening topics they have to discuss, such as the correct biscuit to have with afternoon tea. The end result is that Solo and Faery, both systems with significant incomes, are now under control of Empire based affiliations.

GTT move to clear out the Dewiek Pocket Pheriphery

Having resorted to bribery to get other affiliations to move out of the DHP, with rumoured multi-million stellar amounts being offered, the GTT now appear to have cranked the pressure up. An AFT base has been attacked and a few of the nearby ships have been blown up and damaged by GTT warship class ships patrolling the area. As we write this report, information we have seen shows that the GTT have already taken 20% of the AFT base and fighting continues. We approached the GTT to ask why they are resorting to force and were told that they have had to move significant military power into the DHP to deal with ANT forces, so now they are mopping up all the resistance of other affilaitions that were asked to leave and decided not to.

Solo claim swings back and forth

The situation in Solo appears to be getting even more heated. First the NHS dropped 600,000 troops to contest the system and then the DTR answered with enough troops of their own to trump the NHS claim. The NHS found yet more troops, taking the contesting claim up to 750,000 and once again the DTR answered, bringing Solo back under DTR control. Now the NHS have had a look down the back of the sofa and found yet more troops, taking the contesting claim to a massive 900,000 trained troops. We wait to see if the DTR have an answer to this. We can only guess where all these troops are coming from, but what is clear is that the established affiliations clearly have far larger armies than many thought.

NHS attempt to claim Solo away from DTR

In a shock move the NHS have contested the Solo claim with a huge garrison of 600,000 trained troops. In a move that nobody saw coming, especially as it was unknown the NHS had such a large force of troops to draw upon, the NHS seem to be provoking a response from the DTR. Currently there has been no word from the DTR in how they are going to deal with this claim jumping, although rumours are that they are pretending the Solo claim doesn't really matter to them and so action is unlikely. However this may be a smokescreen and we may yet see the DTR's powerful fleet cause havoc in the system of Solo, which has for a long time been an important junction and fought over by many different factions.

DNA Chairman TonTon resigns

The following communication has been leaked from the DNA to the GTT's PD.

Greetings CEO Fox.
It regrets me to have to inform to you that the DNA nation state will be renouncing its claim on Aladdin system following a ceremony planet side, shortly.
However, it gives me great pleasure to have to inform you that these ceremonies are being planned by Vladimir Tavikovitch, the South Road Traffic Coordinator. He is also responsible for all DNA and .ore. assets in the Outer Naplian (Capellan) periphery so if there are any further issues, please take it up with him.
For any and all other matters, please forward your request directly to the DNA directorate services at NexusID: DNA people.
The Foreign Ministry objects one last time to your illegal claim jump of Aladdin, but we realise it is time to de-escalate.
Normally i would sign off with Naambta, but doing so would be hypocritical. Let me say good riddance instead.
I hereby resign in protest!

Chairman TonTon,
Foreign Minister, DNA
cc: Directorate Services personnel coordinator - !urgent resignation!

DTR threaten WMB with fines for multiple breaches of DTR Law

Lady Sylvansight of the DTR has issued a fine of 1,000,000 stellars to the Wimbles for multiple breaches of DTR Penal and Territorial Law. This seems a very brave move of the DTR to risk upsetting the huge and warlike WMB when they also have the rival NHS Solo system claim to deal with. No word has been recieved yet that the Wimbles are going to pay, but if the formidable WMB warfleet is seen heading for the DTR home systems we will know what their thought are on the matter. The DTR and WMB fleets going head to head would be a sight to behold.

DNA and GTT clash over Aladdin system claim while Pirates look on.

The GTT have this week launched an attack on the DNA outpost in Aladdin, in what appears to be little more than a turkey shoot. Around 100,000 GTT Naplian Startroopers attacked the DNA position to remove the rival system claim. Reports indicate the DNA garrison were taken by surprise and lost control of the base in the first few hours of the fighting. The base has since been reflagged from [Free Naplian Capital] Peaceful Protest to [Loyal Naplian Capital] DNA claim Ended so it's fair to say there was a clear message being sent by the GTT. We have been waiting for the DNA leadership to comment but so far they have been unusually silent. No doubt when they have crawled out from under their desks they will have something to say on the matter.

While this attack was going on several pirate ships were also seen in Aladdin, according to the GTT in what may be true or may be a diversion, with reports of a pirate GP and scout being destroyed while a 150HH pirate warship slipped away and escaped from incoming anti-pirate patrols.

Secret meeting of the EEM

A recent communication intercepted by one of our top reporters today made us aware of a meeting of the EEM. This is underway in a top secret location called Black Pool, which sounds suspiciously like the lair of a pirate band. After pulling in many favours, we were able to identify some of the attending members. On the bases that they won't be named we were able to find out some slight information of the subjects to be discussed at the meeting and one thing is for certain, there could be huge impacts to the lives of everybody living in the galaxy. Details to follow. When the shadowy figures of the EEM come together with the top political players in a pirate base the possibilities are endless!

You are never more than 6 systems from a RAT ðŸ€

A new saying has arisen in the bars and spaceport of starbases throughout the many peripheries; you are never more than 6 systems from a RAT.

It is understood that this saying originated in Yank and spread by trade vessels to peripheries far and wide. Many starbases have heightened their security and added additional sensors and locks to various entry points including foul and grey water outfalls. Beer and drug stocks are undergoing increased proofing to avoid the critters gaining entry and consuming the stockpiles.

Will this present as a new plague of proportions never before seen or is this some simple urban myth being spread for the amusement of some mischievous entity? Who knows, but to be certain... check the shadows.

This year we will again be returning to the Briardene Hotel. They were welcoming, the bar didn't run out of beer pre-covid and there was room for quiet chats. Along with Wetherspoons there is the Victoria just down the road (Sam Smiths - last time beer was around 2 shillings per pint and a full round was less than £10).

Mostly drinking beer and talking toot though we have a good few things on the agenda.

Bookings are done directly with the hotel. Book by phone and say that you are with KJC Games

All staff should be able to deal with the booking but if there are any problems ask for Tracy (manager) as she dealt with all our foibles in previous years.

Dog days are over

With the fall of the DEN and the implosion of their home territory as the AFT, DTR and GTT moved in, it was unlikely the Dewiek would rise again. The DWP gave the species a little hope with the Dewiek Pocket Periphery kept under lock and key. But news has reached us of the AFT's penetration of this private area of space that's been locked down. With a base and claim in one of the three visible systems it seems that the end of the Dewiek is near. A once noble and aggressive race, determined to make an impact on the galaxy is now little more than a species that lives under the command of others. A sad end to a once powerful species that used to control a significant part of known space.

Pirate activity continues

Yet more reports of pirate activity have been received, one from the WMB, losing a freighter in Solo and another from the FET who reported they had engaged and hit the attacking pirate ship with several weapons before it managed to make off with it's prize. Hopefully the pirate ship took significant damage and will now be out of action for some time. The Corewards periphery seems to have been plagued with pirates recently and many travellers would welcome a break from attacks.

MEK incursion into Corewards

The FET and GTT have mounted a joint venture into Nog-Kesri to tackle a MEK force. It isn't known where they have come from, with the only other MEK ships seen so far being located in the Orion Spur. The lack of a known link between where they have appeared in Corewards and the Orion Spur has caused some concern among planetary populations as who knows where they could turn up next! Fortunately the combined FET/GTT task force dealt the MEK a heavy blow and the threat has been eradicated. But we all know this is unlikely to be the last we hear of the MEK in Corwards and we would encourage ship captains to keep a keen eye on thier sensor screens when travelling near Nog-Kesri.

    Aladdin faces ongoing DNA/GTT tension

The tensions between the DNA and GTT in the Coptuv system recently spilled over into the DNA system of Aladdin. A significant party of GTT ground troops has reinforced one of their bases in the system and claimed it, forcing the system claim into turmoil as the DNA finds itself under threat of losing the system. With the DNA chairman asking for help, several affiliations have been seen sending ships to evacuate any in the local population that want to escape the GTT. But so far not a shot has been fired and despite the AFT, FEL and DTR assistance no reisistance to the claim jump has been encountered so far. It remains to be seen if the DNA and it's friends will scatter before this hostile take over or put in a last minute counter claim to thwart GTT intentions.

    Increasing pirate activity

Recent reports indicate a new surge in pirate attacks with the AFT and GTT reporting ships lost. Knowing how some don't like to advertise losses we wouldn't be surprised if this is the tip of the iceberg. Reports passed to us show the ship PIR Scavenger running ID 43174 and another ship of the same name running ID 68668 have both been in action with successful boarding attempts. It's unknown whether these are seperate ships or the same ship reregistered, but our information suggests that it would be hard for these pirates to cover the space where these attacks happened with just one ship. One thing is for sure, be on your guard as open space is not as safe as it once was.

GCE ships loitering in deep space

After the fall of the GCE and a lot of their assets being shared or purchased it was thought that the affiliation was no more. Yet deep space scans indicate that there is still a significant number of GCE warships holding station in deep space between Coptuv and Yank on the transport route into the Corwards Arm. Nobody knows what these ships are up to and why they are still flagged GCE, but our best guess is that are captains either awaiting new orders or owners after the fall of the GCE command structure.

    Tension in the Corewards Arm

With the DNA obtaining several ex-GCE bases in the Coreward Arm it has found itself in the middle of an asset grab of serious proportions and aggression. Our reporters witnessed several GTT troop carriers heading for the Corewards system as the DNA published information suggesting they were accidental owners of the system and that the assets were to be moved on. As the GTT ships started to arrive the bases were quickly passed to the CIA, thus thwarting the GTT intentions as they were hardly likely to start dropping troops on their allies bases. This shrew move by the DNA seems to have calmed matters in the Coreward arm temporarily, although the shift in relations between the GTT and DNA has taken a negative turn. When asked what their next move might be the GTT refused to comment.

    GCE collapse

The GCE are no more, save for some scattered light freighters. The affiliation which enjoyed a sharp rise and profiltable relations with many has ceased trading. Rumors point to the GTT buying up GCE assets before stripping the rival corporation of anything of value. Although our reporters at the SSS have been quick to point out that any GCE assets not in GTT systems have been taken over by both the DNA and FET. So it seems many different affiliations were able to profit from this development including a new group called the HSH who appear to have taken over the GCE war fleet. No doubt many in the peripheries will be watching with interest where these ships are used, who the HSH are and how they were able to get thier hands on so many warships so quickly.

    Secudus trials

In the Cluster Secudus has continued his trials, claiming to root out terrorists working against the Empire. With tends of thousands of beings being sent to the camps or worse. There is no sign of these actions stopping as the NHS clamp down on the locals and bring them under the harsh control of the Empire.

    Persistent Browser-Based Game (PBBG)

I’ve played on and off for approximately 10 years, over a 20 year spell. After some interesting debate on the in-game forum, I did wonder what, exactly, has kept drawing me back to the game, when for so many others I’ve generally lost interest after a few months.

Ultimately, I think it is a combination of automation (that allows the game to handle thousands of positions to interact on a daily basis) coupled with Special Actions (that allow the story arc to develop in a way that could not be catered for by a set of predefined list of available orders).
