Halo News

Shocking news has reached our news-room this week from inside the newly discovered Halo Periphery.

The following report has been received from a party who wishes to remain anonymous:

Action:
Officer J. xxxx is xxx's recently promoted senior representative in Halo He has orders from his superiors to make contact with the HBO and request an affiliation number for HEF. Xxx would like to make it policy that any ship in Halo carries HEF on its DNT.

Result:
Investigation/Mei Mei Mei/HBO Ambassador/ Knowledge of Halo Execution Fleet (103)
The ambassador, currently enjoying making his Kastorian slave's life quite intolerable waves away the officers explanation behind his request for the HEF's signature.
He assures the officer that the HEF are above sentients taking pot shots at them. They really do not take it personally. Generally speaking the atomising of the vessel that thought the action tactically sound is more than enough for them.
The only time it did hear of something out of character was when one of the bigger factions launched a full platform salvo of antimatter into one - that really pissed them off.

The casual revelation that the HBO authorities are Slavers will send shockwaves around the Peripheries, particularly amongst those affiliations who are strongly anti-slavery.

When asked for a comment regarding their involvement in the Halo Periphery, cheese-eating pacifist-monkeys the Detinus Republic looked very shifty before excusing themselves. Though we have recently heard that DTR Fleet Headquarters have placed an order for a large number of hosepipes and footballs, and are circulating enquiries as to whether any of the Jiggly Room dancers would like to relocate to the Venice System.

You do the maths.

In related news, rumours are starting to spread throughout the Yank system of sinister black vessels landing at isolated farming communities, and of entire villages going missing.

Could there be a dark underside to the opening of the Halo Periphery, and as vessels travel from here to there, something else is entering our space?

FLZ On the Move

The Flagritz Empire have just completed a two day mission against Felini forces in the Skye system.

Day one saw the destruction of the outpost FEL Skye Approach Delta which was reduced to rubble by a force of captured Sabre Tooth class ships converted to the Empires service.

Day two saw the ambush of the Felini response force. 1 Broadsword Class Heavy Cruiser, 1 Lynx Maverick Class Destroyer and 3 Lynx Jester Class Carriers were destroyed with no Imperial losses in return and in fact hardly scratched the paintwork of the Flagritz ships. Two Felini Smilodon Fang Class ships escaped destruction by fleeing without even firing a shot.

Imperial Cover-Up?

Rumours are circulating that the Imperial Patrol Commissioner Gracey Githyanki has been involved in covering up the extent of the military losses suffered when the Imperial forces attacked the RIP Starbase of Freedom city in a desperate attempt to capture the Periphery-famous Jiggly room.

It seems as if large numbers of Jiggly patrons and dancers rallied to the cause and inflicted what can only be called a humiliating defeat on the trained military might of the Imperial Services. There are rumours of mass graves and thousands of dead Imperial troops. All of which were covered up when the Imperial Navy arrived to commence a heavy orbital bombardment that finally battered Freedom City into submission and eventual surrender.

As with any orbital bombardment, it is suspected heavy civilian casualties were inflicted.

RIP Capitulate?

With the fall of Freedom City, it seems as if the RIP might be on the verge of absolute surrender to the Imperial-Bloc…

At present we cannot account for the increase in slaves. It is our belief the FLZ is "acquiring" Flagritz Slaves to bolster their economy.

We are also glad to report the destruction of approximately 1 dozen enemy vessels within the past week in Twilight for no losses to allied forces.

Finally, it would appear that one of the Huntlords within the Falconian Expeditionary Forces (FEF) within Twilight has touched a nerve of the Flagritz Hierarchy.. They have been forced to broadcast words of reassurance to attempt to maintain dominance of the civilian populations -

A broadcast is sent exclaiming to the civilian populations of the various worlds reached by the transmission that the Consortium ships at the stargate cower there in fear. They are trapped. They cannot exit Twilight. They cannot received reinforcements due to the shutting of the Inferno gate They are running low on ammunition. Every day they delay the Empire grows stronger. All who heed the coward call of Lord Fitzraven will suffer. Remember, the price of life is obedience. Traitors will die.

Kel Doxel Rahm, FLZ Hominid Scythe, CiC T'Kla

According to our intelligence documents KEL DOXEL RAHM was previously a toilet cleaner in the Flagritz Republic. At the height of this career he had two Wimbles and a Naplian working for him (he did unfortunately have to answer to Munchy the Hive Toilet Crab). Upon the Republics return to the Empire his limited ability and hugely inflated sense of self importance made him an obvious choice for promotion to Political Rank.

Yours humbly,

Administrator Xen

Secret Relations?

Are Spugman and Scott secretly related? Inquiring people comparing the writing habits of these two gentlemen are suggesting that they may be related, possibly even twin brothers. "Both use long-winded, verbose statements that make little sense to anyone who reads them, indicating a need for self justification" according to Dr. Igot A. Problem II of the University of Sol.

"The recent writing samples of both men indicate a desire to 'prove' themselves with words when their actions are lacking", said Dr. Problem. "Their writings are bluster, and they accuse others for their lack of success".

Conspiracy theorists are already speculating on what they may discover as they search official and unofficial records trying to connect the two. R U. Aware of the Society of Strange Thought has said that he has friends tracking birth records and has even stated that the two men may be alien lifeforms implanted into two human bodies in order to sow confusion among humans.

Pirate News

The AFT have managed quite a rare feat this week, having successfully boarded and captured a Pirate vessel. The PIR ship Eyes Of Large fell to a detachment of 200 human marines who quickly overcame the 5 pirate crew defending.

This may well be the first time a pirate vessel has been successfully boarded…

Upon capture, the pirate Carny Class Explorer was found to be equipped with the following:

-Installed Items--------------------------------------------------------------

1 AI Navigator mkII (916) - 10 mus
1 Battle Bridge (101) - 50 mus
1 Bunks (98) - 10 mus
6 Combat Engine mkIV (167) - 20 mus
1 ISR Type 3 Engines (150) - 20 mus
1 Jump Drive (175) - 50 mus
20 Sensor mkIV (106) - 10 mus
2 Thrust Engine mkII (161) - 20 mus

A collection of remarkably high tech equipment, which has come to be expected from Pirate Larges vessels.

The question of who is controlling these ships remains a mystery, with Pirate Large still in retirement; there must be a new pirate organisation on the go. Though one, it has to be said, which is sadly ineffective.

CNF Ship Destroyed

Dewiek forces, somewhere in the Peripheries, have reportedly destroyed a Confederate spy ship believed to belong to everybody's favourite chubby alien-hater General Scott.

Assassinations?

The disappearance of 3 key GTT political figures continues to mystify news sources. Though we may finally have found out what happened thanks to the following Dismas Liberation Organisation press release:

"The DLO is pleased to announce that we have managed to infiltrate the GTT and eliminate three of its top leaders. Drake Takiyama has reportedly 'gone missing'. Not quite. And Fox announced he was stepping down. Anyone seen him around? Ignore the body double who pops up occasionally. Does anyone really believe that a meglomaniac like him would voluntarily step down?

When the GTT leave St. Dismas, our actions against the GTT will cease. There are plenty of other bullies who will draw out attention next. Mr. Spugman, are you requiring assitance?

DLO High command."

Historical Note

Inter-galactic News reporters have recently managed to unearth, thanks to the Confederacy, notes on what happened to the Celestial Emperor of the Children Of Hexos following the destruction by the COH of the moon Coombes.

>Date 20.3: Special Action {...} {...}
Action:
Now that the ex-COH Emperor is now in custody have the officials establish
his demeanour. Is he being co-operative, unhelpful, willing to spill the
beans to save his own hide etc..? Make it clear he is being held under
suspicion and has not yet been formerly charged with anything (but we
reserve the right to do so after questioning).
Result:
Special Action/Sarajevo/Emperor of the COH/War Crimes
The alien is curled up in what could presumably be described as a mantis
position. It has been in the same position since it has arrived and while
not actively cooperative it is also not being uncooperative either. It has
acknowledged that it is being held under suspicion of war crimes but to
date has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in the Brighton
Bombing aka the Coombes Incident.

>Date 20.5: Special Action {...} {...}
Action:
First off have the investigators query the Emperor on the publicly
sighted instances of experiments involving injecting Hive DNA into other
species including humans to make drones. What does the Emperor have to say
about this?
Result:
Special Action/Sarajevo/Emperor of the COH/War Crimes/Human Experiments
The Emperor admits to the possibility that some of his governors were
probably involved in clandestine operations that involved live sentient
subjects. He is not however personally aware of any. He asks how many
Meklan the Confederacy own?

>Date 20.5: Special Action {...} {...}
Action:
Present the publicly revealed evidence regarding the New Sussex incident
involving the nuking of the gas giant. Even Jordan and the new COH
administration have confirmed the chain of events that transpired so that is
not in question, motives and prior knowledge of the consequence of any
known doings are the questions. Specifically we are interested to hear how
the Emperor pleads as to his extent of involvement in the matter and to
what extent was Jordan's dealing in the matter (according to him).
Result:
Special Action/Sarajevo/Emperor of the COH/War Crimes/New Sussex
The Emperor states only that the COH revered the Architects as gods. If
your god commands the launch of missiles into a designated target, then
this is what you will do. If the Confederacy has an issue with divine
commands, then they should take it up with the deity in question.
Note though that the Children of Hexos following the events have now had a
civil upheaval and cast out their Emperor as a result. They have turned
their backs on their Emperor and their Gods. As for the involvement of Ian
Jordan - the human played his part and though in the eyes of the Divine and
the Emperor he is merely the instrument of the Gods, he has also been cast
out by the Children. The Emperor cares not for him, he has served his use.

The ultimate fate of the Emperor remains unknown, though it is thought the CIA 'disappeared' him from a Confederate detention cell shortly following the conclusion of his interrogation. The true guilty party, Ian Jordan, who masterminded the COH actions, remains at large and wanted.

From The Blog Of The IDC

Since returning to the helm of the IDC I've been thinking of the direction the business should go in.

A long while ago I had the dream of claiming a star system and developing the planetary bodies therein so that all of them could sustain life. Colonising the system and generally creating an environment which would be attractive to all sentients to settle in once we were ready to admit other groups.

However, the issues surrounding system claims have led me to believe this is a futile proposition.

While reassessing the current holdings of the IDC it has become apparent that the long term interests of the company are best served by basing our operations within the confines of KAS space. The Halo periphery may well be another option to explore in the near future, the first steps having already been made.

Contracted development work, which the IDC was set up for, will be based on arrangements made with the relevant system owners. Any fixed assets that the IDC establishes within systems for the completion of contracts will have to be viewed as temporary on our part, even if given settlement rights by the system owner. IDC establishments outside of KAS or HBO space may well have to be ignored for the purposes of developing research centres and manufacturing - there is little point in expecting to keep them until the IDC have the power, either political or military to deter seizure by outside agencies.

Which brings me to the issue of company security - to run a military department beyond simple freighter security or not? That issue can wait a little longer as it opens up a whole raft of wider issues relating to relations with other organisations. Not least of which is the restrictions put on system occupants by the KAS and the HBO.

A large security fleet capable of giving outside agencies pause for thought would most likely be beyond the restrictions of the KAS or the HBO so finding a place to set-up a naval base could prove difficult. Particularly if attempting to hide the full strength of the fleet.

One has to chuckle at the amusing position to be in when thinking long term...

Historical Perspective Special Edition

The History Of Humanity - Part Two.

The History of the Confederacy and Human Empire by the Confederate historian Robert William Draper

(ooc: As experienced by the player Ewan Jones from the year 198 onwards and collated into a single cohesive storyline between 204 and December 208 Reprinted by The Editor for the SSS because it is considered sufficiently of interest to all players who might have missed it on the Nexus.)

Chapter 8 - Post Tau Ceti Convention under Emperor Jasil.

Following the exodus of the Confederacy, strict limits were placed on religious organisations by Emperor Jasil. These generally covered their personal control of assets. They were no longer allowed to control starbases within the boundaries of the Empire but had to maintain civilian holdings only. This lack of shipping and starbases effectively cut their power and over time the New Harmony Church lost much of the influence it had prior to the schism with the Brotherhood.

The end of the war also meant that the Emperor became increasingly introspective and the Empire became insular. It is fairly certain that if it were not for the pressure placed on the throne by the chartered affiliations to expand to new areas not plagued by radioactive wastelands, the Empire would never have made it to the Peripheries.

Almost immediately a tide of entrepreneurs, civilians, corporate divisions of the empire mega-corporations and Imperial Stellar Patrol itself made its way to the Pollux system, the gateway to the new systems and began arriving en masse at the newly created EEM Hypso and other colonies in Capellan.
The origins of the AFT date back to around this time and the beginning of human exploration of the Peripheries. The mega-corporations, notably the GTT, gained an early stranglehold on the economic climate of the newly opened systems, and spared no effort to drive small entrepreneurs back into the Inner Empire. Even outright military confrontations were used as tools for eliminating smaller competitors. So, in 177.48, for mutual protection and economic cooperation, several small businessmen banded together to form the AFT. By 185 they had achieved a level of respectability that forced the Empire to take note. Having received a number of accolades for fair trade, they were awarded an official charter. Despite this though, their ties to the Inner Empire remained tenuous at best until with the opening of new markets in alien territory, they totally renounced their charter in 198.10. Over the next few years their assets were relocated into more neutral territory.

As it was, the subsequent discovery of the Detinus Republic in the newly found Capellan periphery came as a terrible shock to Jasil. Immediately Jasil feared yet another civil war further draining resources from the Empire.
It is believed that this is the primary reason for the gradual closing of the borders between the Periphery and the Inner Empire. The final lynchpin however, even more so than the initial conflict with the highly xenophobic race the Flagritz was the discovery of the Darkfold Periphery and sightings of Confederate vessels and installations. Suddenly it became clear that while space was big, it just was not big enough.

As the Imperial Services once again battled the Confederacy and the Detinus Republic, Jasil looked to his own defences. The key system of Pollux was bolstered and Tau Ceti became largely a naval system centred on the moon of Cassiopeia, Ceti 3i.

Desperate to ensure that should the old enemies of the Empire return then the required forces would be ready Jasil instigated a policy of higher taxes applied to shipping, largely effecting the corporations. Whilst they paid the taxes,, the grumblings regarding a distant and unseen enemy were muttered and were to have a lasting and growing basis for further dissent to the rule of the Emperor.

During this period, Jasil left the Inner Empire only twice, the first time to tour the Peripheries and secondly years later to witness the interment of his father. Jasil hoped that the latter would spell the end of hostilities between the Empire and the Confederacy. This though proved to be his undoing in a most unforeseen way.

Chapter 9 - Post Tau Ceti Convention under Lord Samuel.

Long before the outbreak of civil war between Samuel and Jasil the Brotherhood had secretly discovered the New Sol system and begun construction of a number of secret bases with which to underpin it's goals and ultimately guarantee Samuels ascension to the Imperial throne. As it was Emperor Paul's days did not last as long as needed and assets within New Sol were still at an early stage of development, albeit the Imperial forces did not appreciate this factor.

With the signing of the Tau Ceti convention millions upon millions of colonists and supporters of Samuel began flooding into New Sol and new cities were fast constructed. With scarce few resources times were difficult within the newly formed Confederacy as the pressure to re-establish order and accommodate the newly arrived peoples intensified.

Around the time of the final collapse of the RR-Lyrae star Brotherhood scientists discovered new systems linked off New Sol with vast mineral resources and hospitable worlds perfect for colonisation.

From the 40 or so noble houses that declared for Samuel during the war, seven large noble houses firmly established themselves in the new lands - House Roswell, House LiQuan, House Drake, House Porter, House Vehrenberg, House Schwarz and House Eaton.

The Roswell House dates back to the Mars project prior to the Empire. The company declared the enclosed colony a principality, primarily to avoid the huge taxations on imports to Mars. A secondary effect of this though was that many flocked to the colony in order to gamble. The formation of the Empire meant that the colony suddenly became a minor if irritating thorn in the side of the Emperor. There were only two courses of action, either recognize the sovereignty of the colony or bring it into the fold. The Emperor decided on the latter. Using the New Harmony Church, the colony was suddenly besieged by religion in an attempt the cripple the gambling. This worked better than could be expected. Roswell quickly altered the theme of the colony to accommodate rich pilgrims. The Emperor seeing his plans backfiring offered a lordship to Roswell, granting him local power Roswell graciously accepted and became bound to the fledgling Empire. History books cynically argue that Roswell was in fact purely in it for politics, rather than any religious calling. He saw that it was take the faith or loose his colony to the Emperor; therefore he used the Emperor's tools against him. The house worked alongside a faction of the New Harmony Church. This splinter group, later becoming the Brotherhood caused the events leading to the great Rebellion. Unfortunately, the colony on Mars was one of the first to be destroyed killing virtually all of Roswell's family. Only a few ships survived, taking little more than their name to the Inner Confederacy. The discovery of the Darkfold Periphery was seized on as a chance to make their name again.

Originally based in the outlying system of Sparta the LiQuan family was one of the greatest ship builders for the Empire, supplying the warships for the Emperor. They designed the battleship and all the specialist unique designs. Within the new lands the LiQuan looked to their areas of expertise again, building and controlling the largest shipyard in the Fortress system. Without their aid, it is likely that the Confederacy would have fallen completely during the initial war. It is believed that they joined the Confederacy when Samuel promised them he would lift the restrictions on who they could sell ships to and give a fair price for any purchased by the State.

Ironically it is the Drake noble house that only gained significant amounts of power since the civil war begun. After the first nuclear weapons were launched against pro Samuel worlds it was the Drake family who were tasked with responding in kind to Jasil backed Imperial aggression. Since the arrival in the new lands the Drakes concentrated on gaining a solid local power base throughout the known systems, controlling much of the bureaucracy which drives the wheels of progress and expansion.

The Vehrenberg family are the result of an amalgamation of a number of like minded smaller houses on arrival in New Sol as to maximise their potential. This gave them a lot of power they would not normally have had although the house was to suffer many internal wrangles in the years to follow because of this. Much of the merchant and ground based army fell under the directive of the Vehrenberg family after the initial colonisation of New Sol.

Of all the noble houses to declare for Samuel, House Porter was perhaps closest to Samuels side during the civil war. Vehemently loyal to the crown, House Porter developed a reputation for being at the core of all Samuels campaigns and throughout the war built up a core of highly trained veteran crack troops, completely loyal to the crown.

House Schwarz excelled in the provision, planning and building of services for newly arrived colonists following the exodus to New Sol. In the first years, House Schwarz were responsible for the building of much of the new cities and infrastructure, gaining and eclipsing the other houses by a massive amount in terms of sheer size and power on the strength of it's assets alone. Fortunately for the competing nobles with crippling loans and debts accounting for some 70% of it's size, the power of House Schwarz has long been kept in check.

The Eaton family was, besides that of the emperor himself, one of the oldest families in existence. Their roots date back to the 1700 in the Gregorian Earth calendar. With a traditional for being deeply religious the Eaton's have long since been close to the Brotherhood, Emperor and other noble houses thus excelling in areas of diplomacy and courtly matters.

With new CNF forces being commissioned and CIA bases being constructed alongside BHD sites the future began to look brighter as society took shape and a collective set of ideals encompassing superiority, tradition, the True One and other civil beliefs took hold in a new decade of expansion, exploration and rebuilding.

In turn this led to the discovery of the Darkfold periphery, a much larger collection of systems known as the outer confederacy. Lord Samuel ordered the Confederate Naval Forces and elements of the Confederate Intelligence Agency, Brotherhood and others to go forward, colonise and explore the periphery.

Upon the realisation of the link to the Capellan periphery Lord Samuel, like his brother Jasil, ordered a gradual closing of the border for open travel whilst ordering further forces into the Darkfold increasing the strength and presence of his fighting forces in the form of CNF, CIA and BHD vessels, troops and bases. Thus re-igniting the war within the peripheries.

Chapter 10 - War in the Peripheries.

With both the Imperial and Confederate expeditionary forces building up assets in the vast new lands of the Capellan and Darkfold periphery the first minor skirmishes were destined to only grow in size and scale, later to almost rival that of the battles which raged during the initial stages of the war many years before.

By 193 aliens known as the Flagritz had joined forces with the Detinus rebels sighted in Capellan. Many amongst humanity saw this betrayal as inconceivable to their human estranged relations - the IMP. The DTR colony Blackvoid initially fell and was renamed to FET Windhook but following a combined DTR/FGZ assault was retaken by DTR ground forces, albeit after a sustained bombardment there was little left to take.

With new declarations of war being declared by the IMP and chartered affiliations the IMP battled to destroy the DTR as a cohesive fighting force once and for all and ensure they have no more colonies left to threaten the new core systems. Early battles between DTR and IMP forces proved indecisive and the war endured for a number of months until the eventual collapse of the command structure of the DTR following the loss of core DTR installations and a number of high profile defections of DTR generals to IMP forces.

Later in 193 Prince Lysander, son of Emperor Jasil, made his first visit to the peripheries just as the remaining DTR assets were taken over by the EEM following the general collapse. Subsequent rumours turned to reality as the remaining DTR forces arranged deals between the EEM, themselves and Confederate Darkfold forces in order to relocate remaining assets to the Darkfold periphery, away from the Imperial base of operations and safer within the confines of their fellow rebels. It was later revealed that an open route between Capellan and Darkfold had been opened through KAS controlled Yank space.

The following year saw fresh assaults by the Confederate allies upon the IMP colony St Petersburg, early promising gains turned to nothing with arrival of the Imperial fleet and the campaign stalled. A volatile situation arose also when the CNF were accused of working with pirates to sabotage Imperial shipping, prompting the EEM to issue a statement threatening the freezing of stellar accounts. A similar pattern of assault and counter assault followed for the next few years with Confederate and Imperial forces making use of hit and run tactics to further the war effort, most notably by the CNF Rolling Thunder fleet which wreaked havoc in Capellan over the period of a year or more until eventual corruption took hold with the CNF Supreme Commander leaving to join the pirates and the loss of a significant amount of ships from the Rolling Thunder fleet in a untimely and unsuccessful intervention into the FGZ-IMP/DOM war.

By early 199 the patience of Lord Samuel was growing thin with lack of progress being made in the peripheries. A new command team was appointed in the form of House Roswell heir apparent Jordan Roswell (son of Lord Decker Roswell) and Thomas S. Jackson a long time career military commander.

Roswell and Jackson moved quickly to repair some of the damage done by internal corruption and repair the tarnished and strained relations with the CIA, BHD and also DTR who had, by this time, upped and left the Darkfold after a bitter internal dispute soured relations and settled anew in the Detinus periphery. A series of successfully executed skirmishes towards the latter part of the year saw a number of assaults on the one time Confederate Commander turned Pirate and the infamous RIP Viper Squad.

Flagritz On The Move

After weeks of nervous inactivity in the Twilight Periphery, it seems as if the FLZ navies may finally be on the move as a large Flagritz battlefleet has begun skirmishing with SMS and FEL cruisers in the inner reaches of the system.

After a brief exchange of long distance fire the Consortium forces disengaged and moved away, with over 50 heavy battleships of the Flagritz Empire in pursuit.

It seems as if the FLZ may well be seeking to draw the Consortium forces in Twilight into a decisive battle in order to annihilate them before the Stargate opens again.

Further, Felini news agencies have provided the following story:

Flagritz forces have again struck again in the Cluster, this time blockading the planet Piste in the Winter system. During the action the platform FEL Winter Sentinal (90430) and Courier FEL Kytons Kargo (73768) were destroyed and a Caravel class freighter was heavily damaged.

No Consortium warships dared to engage the fleet, obviously the Captains that Felini honour could be sated by staying in bed rather than fighting.

Meklan

The recent capture by the Falconians of an Obsidian Predator Swarm outpost in the Dawn system - a part of the Twilight Periphery - has uncovered evidence that the OPS were undertaking research into the Meklanisation process inside a vast underground cave network.

SSS/IGN reporters embedded with the Consortium task force were allowed to observe the research labs and noted the following:

MEKLAN - NAPLIAN (10713)
Labs: 0 Mass: 70 mus
Points: 20240 Next Conversion: 28900 points
Bonus: -21 Next Avg Result: -100 mus
-14 Penalty, lacking Meklan (8606).
-7 Penalty, lacking Training - Naplian (8512).

There seems to be evidence that supporting technologies had recently been stripped out of the outpost and removed to safety.

There are also rumours that the nearby planet of Awakening has suffered from bands of slavers capturing Naplians…

No comment has yet been made by the OPS. Though it should be noted that many affiliations have conducted research into the Meklanisation process and this discovery does not necessarily confirm that the OPS have been engaged in a truly horrific practice.

It is clearly pretty bad PR for them however.

Mind Control

There are no suggestions that CIA Mind Control experts may be behind the recent collapse of the Mohache comms network.

Why, to suggest such a thing is simply absurd. Absurd we say.

Hail the CIA.

Pirates

The pirate vessel Royal Fortune has successfully boarded and captured the HLQ freighter Lady Susan in the outer reaches of the Dorn system, suggesting that at least one group of pirates is indeed still active and that any freighter captains who thought they could be lazy around outer orbital quadrants since Wolfpack retired had probably better think again.

Not A Pirate

The captain of the RIP freighter 'Pirate Ship' has asked us to point out that he is not in fact a pirate ship. Which prompts the question of when is a pirate a pirate?

We'd probably best not answer that one in case the IMP and GTT get cross with us again.

Enigma System

Confederate Press Release.

Greetings,

The Confederate Forces (CNF) would like to inform whoever it may concern that the Enigma System (77) is in the process of transition from the Mohache Nation to the Confederacy.

During this time of transition, we ask all parties with assets in the system to contact this office with an application to be granted extensions of your existing ARPs. Commonwealth partners are still requested to register their interests out of courtesy.

We further ask that whilst the claim undergoes a change and proper security is established, all non-Confederate or Mohache shipping avoid ALL planetary orbits. Unauthorised shipping may be posted and / or destroyed on sight.

Furthermore, the Black Hole in the system is out of bounds for all but the CNF and CIA. A shoot-on-sight policy will be implemented within 3 days of this notice.

Transit through ring 10 is permitted to Commonwealth ships as necessary.

We will review access to the system once the claim is finalized.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Major Geraldine Ford
IMXR-COM

Alien-Hater In Action

Forces belonging to the Confederate general Scott have intercepted and destroyed a Dewiek freighter that was in violation of the recent mandates posted regarding the Enigma system.

Mohache On The Move

Rumours are flying that the Glorious And Terrible Mohache Empire stand on the brink of taking over the Confederacy. More news as we get it.

It Pays To Hate Aliens

General Scott of the Confederacy has recently earned the title of Baron, as described in the following brief press release:

Following his extraordinary change in worth ethics, the Emperor bestows on Jeremiah Scott the title Baron. From this day forward he is to be referred to as Sir or Baron Jericho.

Clearly we here at the IGN newsroom will completely forget this and continue to refer to him as General. We consider will probably annoy him as much as we suspect the Imperial Patrol Commissioner hates being referred to as 'Mandy'.

Twilight

A lone Flagritz ambush class Destroyer has been destroyed by an SMS patrol in the Twilight system. A separate FLZ scout was also destroyed on the same day.

Skye

A FLZ scout has been destroyed in the Skye system. Prompting speculation that the FLZ are looking to pin down the location of the main Consortium fleets in preparation for a major fleet action.

Crisis Averted

Swift and decisive action by the FET this week has narrowly averted a potential catastrophe on Leffingwell where native animal species were at risk of extinction thanks to suspected large scale unlicensed poaching by party or parties unknown.

Fortunately it seems as if the guilty parties have been found, and their operations will cease, allowing the native fauna of the planet to recover in number.

GTT Press Release

From the offices of Blake Ravenstone
Star Date 210.7.3

Following the liberation of the outpost ominously named RIP The Bone Yard (33383), on Curry's End (754), Rebellion System (144), a GTT exploration team investigating the sector reported the gruesome discovery of a mass grave estimated to contain over half a million humanoid bodies.

The first report:

The scan reveals further foundations for buildings that have been completely covered with dust and soil, but nothing intact. What is found though are what can only be described as mass graves. These occur at random locations throughout the entire earthworks. Organic matter is detected in large amounts. Chemicals as well as non-organic materials have been used to seal the graves before they were covered. If the bodies were humanoid, it would be estimated that over half a million bodies have been buried here

The second report:

Skeletons of the humanoids are removed from the graves and examined in the biolab. There is no obvious use for the remains in the grave, but studies of the skulls of a few rare intact finds reveals similarities to the Kastorians. Other skulls have prominent canine fangs. These are similar to Dewiek physiology, but the poor quality of the remains makes positive identification impossible.

Investigations will continue.

Pirate Destroyed

SMS Platforms have destroyed a small pirate scout in the Dryad system.

Lost In The Cold

A long lost DTR scouting party has been located in the Wastelands system.

A DTR source has commented that the scout must have lost communications behind enemy lines and just followed his survival training for last four years while awaiting a rescue party.

It is thought he should soon be on the way home to his friends and family.

Twilight

More skirmishing in Twilight as an SMS patrol successfully intercepts three Flagritz cruisers of varying classes, and destroyed them in short order before withdrawing.

And elsewhere a heavy squadron of Flagritz ships of the line intercepted and pounded a small squadron of Felini cruisers, destroying 4 of them.

It sounds as if Twilight is not a particularly safe place to be lately.

Flagritz Strike!

As suspected, the Flagritz Empire have made their move against the Consortium forces in the Twilight Periphery. A massed fleet of FLZ vessels ranging in size from small support cruisers right up to a significant force of thirty or more of their monstrous 200 hulled battleships has struck against the cut-off Consortium fleet.

The Flagritz, armed largely with Nova guns, missiles and torpedoes, exchanged a lively fire with a superior number of SMS/FEL/FCN ships in a fierce battle which saw almost two entire squadrons of SMS Heavy Cruisers destroyed, 18 ships in total along with two or three larger FCN/FEL ships. However the FLZ did not have it all their way, as 6 of their vessels were destroyed, along with heavy damage inflicted to 10 baseships, one of which is understood to have suffered catastrophic hull failure as it attempted to withdraw from battle.

Initial reports from our reporters embedded with the SMS fleet suggest that the FLZ may have run into a stiffer defence than they were expecting, as on the second day of battle the FLZ fleet seems to have sought to withdraw - an operation during which they suffered some significant damage as long-range weapons fire from Consortium forces went unanswered by the fleeing FLZ vessels.

A consortium source has issued the following quote regarding the battle:

"A major FLZ fleet group moved into the Quadrant of the Stargate, it included a number of OPS designed Blackwidow class 300HH vessels. They where engaged by forward elements of the Consortium Armada, after a single day of battle the FLZ fled, unable to stomach a protracted conflict."

Mohache Leadership

It's all change in the realm of the Mohache Overlords this week, as the following press release indicates:

"Kourdda beings of the Peripheries

It has now been confirmed that Listens to Voices has stepped down as Nootka of the Mohache Nation and the respected Sees with Knowledge has taken up the mantle of leadership. In a quiet ceremony, with little fuss, the Staff of Peace was handed over to the new Nootka. The following banquet however, was more befitting such a grand occasion and lasted well into three weeks, with intermittent naps between the 5 course meals.

There is still much speculation as to why Listens has chosen this moment to stand down. Some foreign critics would argue that he represents the old Mohache way and that since discovering the peripheries in 203 the Nation has failed to integrate itself fully with many alien species, preferring to remain aloof and proud of it's peaceful stature within the new systems.

However, Listens is revered among the Mohache people and there has been much concern for his apparent failing health over the last few years. He has spent long periods in meditation recently and comments such as 'the path of ascension has been revealed' have had the population both excited and concerned for his sanity. Several weeks spent within the Mohache Science Academy have also fuelled many rumours. The old leader continues to go about his business quietly, discreetly and methodically .... the Nation though, continues on it's path, united as ever behind it's new Nootka, Sees with Knowledge.

Kell vemmika hurda rohappu."

Alien translation experts here at the Inter-Galactic News offices have suggested to us that 'Kell vemmika hurda rohappu' may well translate as 'Death to the enemies of the dread Mohache Empire'. Fuelling rumours that the peaceful farmer image is precisely that - the image that the Mohache portray to the Peripheries to cover their evil empire building ways.

In related news, it is still unclear why the Editor of the SSS has so much fear and paranoia relating to the Mohache. Possibly Alien Brain Parasites.

Charity Begins In The Imperial Services

Offices of the IMP Navy Patrol Commisioner have today made a 20,000 stellar payment via the EEM for distribution to numerous charitable organisations.

More Alien Brain Parasite activity?

Sneaky Pirates

A pirate vessel has reportedly managed to sneak into orbit of a major GTT base and capture and board a freighter without being detected. It is understood both pirate and victim were able to escape before GTT commanders issued alerts.

Pirate Spotted

A pirate boarder has been spotted in the outer reaches of the Lewis system by a GTT patrol. All freighter captains are warned to be on alert.

Halo

More reports have reached our newsroom of pirate scout activity in the Halo system. Perhaps in response to this, a large number of stealth scouts from various affiliations have been spotted moving around the wormhole terminus in Yank, presumably monitoring all traffic coming and going to the Halo periphery.

Halo

More rumours from the Halo periphery, as whispers reach our newsroom that commanders of the Kastorian Annihilation Fleet are becoming increasingly irritated with the presence of so many aliens in their space.

Whether this means there will be an increased likelihood of twitchy trigger fingers is unknown, but for sure any captains of military vessels that transit into the Halo periphery should step carefully.

Apologies Demanded

Tiresome Imperial Whingebags (TIW) have demanded apologies from the SSS/IGN for publishing material deemed to be offensive to TIW eyes.

The Editor invites all parties with complaints to review the comprehensive SSS/IGN complaint resolution procedures as detailed below:

1) All parties with a complaint are invited to detail their complaint along with full supporting documentation and submit it written on the back of a hand grenade to the address below:

RIP News Network.
Third Smoking Crater On The Right
What's Left Of RIP Bases After The IMP Were Done.
Capellan Periphery.

2) Should an adequate response not be forthcoming, complainants are invited to proceed to step 2 of our adjudication process, whereby the details of their complaint should be addressed to the back end of a cow. Believe us, this will probably get you better results than complaining to the SSS/IGN newsroom.

All complainants should further be aware that any complaint made will inevitably result in at least 2 weeks worth of extremely negative press for their Affiliation.

Thank you for taking the time to review these SSS/IGN complaint procedures. We hope you have a very good day.

RIP Compensation Scheme

Despite what might be described as mild impacts on their operational capacities, the RIP Pirate Compensation Scheme is continuing on schedule.

FLZ Outpost Shelled

A small force of Falconian cruisers equipped with rail guns has bombarded the Flagritz outpost XS-MO Fresh, in the Fresh system. The outpost, largely undefended, is understood to have taken very heavy damage, with large casualties.

Claims settle in Solo and Faery

With the NHS bringing in almost a million troops into Solo and the GTT choosing it's moment to contest Faery at the same time, it seems the DTR and it's alllies either found it hard to find enough troops to respond or quite simply decided it wasn't worth the hassle as there were far more important matters to deal with in the Senate. Who knows what other life threatening topics they have to discuss, such as the correct biscuit to have with afternoon tea. The end result is that Solo and Faery, both systems with significant incomes, are now under control of Empire based affiliations.

GTT move to clear out the Dewiek Pocket Pheriphery

Having resorted to bribery to get other affiliations to move out of the DHP, with rumoured multi-million stellar amounts being offered, the GTT now appear to have cranked the pressure up. An AFT base has been attacked and a few of the nearby ships have been blown up and damaged by GTT warship class ships patrolling the area. As we write this report, information we have seen shows that the GTT have already taken 20% of the AFT base and fighting continues. We approached the GTT to ask why they are resorting to force and were told that they have had to move significant military power into the DHP to deal with ANT forces, so now they are mopping up all the resistance of other affilaitions that were asked to leave and decided not to.

Solo claim swings back and forth

The situation in Solo appears to be getting even more heated. First the NHS dropped 600,000 troops to contest the system and then the DTR answered with enough troops of their own to trump the NHS claim. The NHS found yet more troops, taking the contesting claim up to 750,000 and once again the DTR answered, bringing Solo back under DTR control. Now the NHS have had a look down the back of the sofa and found yet more troops, taking the contesting claim to a massive 900,000 trained troops. We wait to see if the DTR have an answer to this. We can only guess where all these troops are coming from, but what is clear is that the established affiliations clearly have far larger armies than many thought.

NHS attempt to claim Solo away from DTR

In a shock move the NHS have contested the Solo claim with a huge garrison of 600,000 trained troops. In a move that nobody saw coming, especially as it was unknown the NHS had such a large force of troops to draw upon, the NHS seem to be provoking a response from the DTR. Currently there has been no word from the DTR in how they are going to deal with this claim jumping, although rumours are that they are pretending the Solo claim doesn't really matter to them and so action is unlikely. However this may be a smokescreen and we may yet see the DTR's powerful fleet cause havoc in the system of Solo, which has for a long time been an important junction and fought over by many different factions.

DNA Chairman TonTon resigns

The following communication has been leaked from the DNA to the GTT's PD.

Greetings CEO Fox.
It regrets me to have to inform to you that the DNA nation state will be renouncing its claim on Aladdin system following a ceremony planet side, shortly.
However, it gives me great pleasure to have to inform you that these ceremonies are being planned by Vladimir Tavikovitch, the South Road Traffic Coordinator. He is also responsible for all DNA and .ore. assets in the Outer Naplian (Capellan) periphery so if there are any further issues, please take it up with him.
For any and all other matters, please forward your request directly to the DNA directorate services at NexusID: DNA people.
The Foreign Ministry objects one last time to your illegal claim jump of Aladdin, but we realise it is time to de-escalate.
Normally i would sign off with Naambta, but doing so would be hypocritical. Let me say good riddance instead.
I hereby resign in protest!

Chairman TonTon,
Foreign Minister, DNA
cc: Directorate Services personnel coordinator - !urgent resignation!

DTR threaten WMB with fines for multiple breaches of DTR Law

Lady Sylvansight of the DTR has issued a fine of 1,000,000 stellars to the Wimbles for multiple breaches of DTR Penal and Territorial Law. This seems a very brave move of the DTR to risk upsetting the huge and warlike WMB when they also have the rival NHS Solo system claim to deal with. No word has been recieved yet that the Wimbles are going to pay, but if the formidable WMB warfleet is seen heading for the DTR home systems we will know what their thought are on the matter. The DTR and WMB fleets going head to head would be a sight to behold.

DNA and GTT clash over Aladdin system claim while Pirates look on.

The GTT have this week launched an attack on the DNA outpost in Aladdin, in what appears to be little more than a turkey shoot. Around 100,000 GTT Naplian Startroopers attacked the DNA position to remove the rival system claim. Reports indicate the DNA garrison were taken by surprise and lost control of the base in the first few hours of the fighting. The base has since been reflagged from [Free Naplian Capital] Peaceful Protest to [Loyal Naplian Capital] DNA claim Ended so it's fair to say there was a clear message being sent by the GTT. We have been waiting for the DNA leadership to comment but so far they have been unusually silent. No doubt when they have crawled out from under their desks they will have something to say on the matter.

While this attack was going on several pirate ships were also seen in Aladdin, according to the GTT in what may be true or may be a diversion, with reports of a pirate GP and scout being destroyed while a 150HH pirate warship slipped away and escaped from incoming anti-pirate patrols.

Secret meeting of the EEM

A recent communication intercepted by one of our top reporters today made us aware of a meeting of the EEM. This is underway in a top secret location called Black Pool, which sounds suspiciously like the lair of a pirate band. After pulling in many favours, we were able to identify some of the attending members. On the bases that they won't be named we were able to find out some slight information of the subjects to be discussed at the meeting and one thing is for certain, there could be huge impacts to the lives of everybody living in the galaxy. Details to follow. When the shadowy figures of the EEM come together with the top political players in a pirate base the possibilities are endless!

You are never more than 6 systems from a RAT ðŸ€

A new saying has arisen in the bars and spaceport of starbases throughout the many peripheries; you are never more than 6 systems from a RAT.

It is understood that this saying originated in Yank and spread by trade vessels to peripheries far and wide. Many starbases have heightened their security and added additional sensors and locks to various entry points including foul and grey water outfalls. Beer and drug stocks are undergoing increased proofing to avoid the critters gaining entry and consuming the stockpiles.

Will this present as a new plague of proportions never before seen or is this some simple urban myth being spread for the amusement of some mischievous entity? Who knows, but to be certain... check the shadows.

This year we will again be returning to the Briardene Hotel. They were welcoming, the bar didn't run out of beer pre-covid and there was room for quiet chats. Along with Wetherspoons there is the Victoria just down the road (Sam Smiths - last time beer was around 2 shillings per pint and a full round was less than £10).

Mostly drinking beer and talking toot though we have a good few things on the agenda.

Dog days are over

With the fall of the DEN and the implosion of their home territory as the AFT, DTR and GTT moved in, it was unlikely the Dewiek would rise again. The DWP gave the species a little hope with the Dewiek Pocket Periphery kept under lock and key. But news has reached us of the AFT's penetration of this private area of space that's been locked down. With a base and claim in one of the three visible systems it seems that the end of the Dewiek is near. A once noble and aggressive race, determined to make an impact on the galaxy is now little more than a species that lives under the command of others. A sad end to a once powerful species that used to control a significant part of known space.

Pirate activity continues

Yet more reports of pirate activity have been received, one from the WMB, losing a freighter in Solo and another from the FET who reported they had engaged and hit the attacking pirate ship with several weapons before it managed to make off with it's prize. Hopefully the pirate ship took significant damage and will now be out of action for some time. The Corewards periphery seems to have been plagued with pirates recently and many travellers would welcome a break from attacks.

MEK incursion into Corewards

The FET and GTT have mounted a joint venture into Nog-Kesri to tackle a MEK force. It isn't known where they have come from, with the only other MEK ships seen so far being located in the Orion Spur. The lack of a known link between where they have appeared in Corewards and the Orion Spur has caused some concern among planetary populations as who knows where they could turn up next! Fortunately the combined FET/GTT task force dealt the MEK a heavy blow and the threat has been eradicated. But we all know this is unlikely to be the last we hear of the MEK in Corwards and we would encourage ship captains to keep a keen eye on thier sensor screens when travelling near Nog-Kesri.

    Aladdin faces ongoing DNA/GTT tension

The tensions between the DNA and GTT in the Coptuv system recently spilled over into the DNA system of Aladdin. A significant party of GTT ground troops has reinforced one of their bases in the system and claimed it, forcing the system claim into turmoil as the DNA finds itself under threat of losing the system. With the DNA chairman asking for help, several affiliations have been seen sending ships to evacuate any in the local population that want to escape the GTT. But so far not a shot has been fired and despite the AFT, FEL and DTR assistance no reisistance to the claim jump has been encountered so far. It remains to be seen if the DNA and it's friends will scatter before this hostile take over or put in a last minute counter claim to thwart GTT intentions.

    Increasing pirate activity

Recent reports indicate a new surge in pirate attacks with the AFT and GTT reporting ships lost. Knowing how some don't like to advertise losses we wouldn't be surprised if this is the tip of the iceberg. Reports passed to us show the ship PIR Scavenger running ID 43174 and another ship of the same name running ID 68668 have both been in action with successful boarding attempts. It's unknown whether these are seperate ships or the same ship reregistered, but our information suggests that it would be hard for these pirates to cover the space where these attacks happened with just one ship. One thing is for sure, be on your guard as open space is not as safe as it once was.

GCE ships loitering in deep space

After the fall of the GCE and a lot of their assets being shared or purchased it was thought that the affiliation was no more. Yet deep space scans indicate that there is still a significant number of GCE warships holding station in deep space between Coptuv and Yank on the transport route into the Corwards Arm. Nobody knows what these ships are up to and why they are still flagged GCE, but our best guess is that are captains either awaiting new orders or owners after the fall of the GCE command structure.

    Tension in the Corewards Arm

With the DNA obtaining several ex-GCE bases in the Coreward Arm it has found itself in the middle of an asset grab of serious proportions and aggression. Our reporters witnessed several GTT troop carriers heading for the Corewards system as the DNA published information suggesting they were accidental owners of the system and that the assets were to be moved on. As the GTT ships started to arrive the bases were quickly passed to the CIA, thus thwarting the GTT intentions as they were hardly likely to start dropping troops on their allies bases. This shrew move by the DNA seems to have calmed matters in the Coreward arm temporarily, although the shift in relations between the GTT and DNA has taken a negative turn. When asked what their next move might be the GTT refused to comment.

    GCE collapse

The GCE are no more, save for some scattered light freighters. The affiliation which enjoyed a sharp rise and profiltable relations with many has ceased trading. Rumors point to the GTT buying up GCE assets before stripping the rival corporation of anything of value. Although our reporters at the SSS have been quick to point out that any GCE assets not in GTT systems have been taken over by both the DNA and FET. So it seems many different affiliations were able to profit from this development including a new group called the HSH who appear to have taken over the GCE war fleet. No doubt many in the peripheries will be watching with interest where these ships are used, who the HSH are and how they were able to get thier hands on so many warships so quickly.

    Secudus trials

In the Cluster Secudus has continued his trials, claiming to root out terrorists working against the Empire. With tends of thousands of beings being sent to the camps or worse. There is no sign of these actions stopping as the NHS clamp down on the locals and bring them under the harsh control of the Empire.

Ultimately, I think it is a combination of automation (that allows the game to handle thousands of positions to interact on a daily basis) coupled with Special Actions (that allow the story arc to develop in a way that could not be catered for by a set of predefined list of available orders).
