New Periphery opened to the Public
That's right, for the first time in 17 years of the game an entirely new periphery have been made public at the time of being created. The Corewards Arm currently consists of over 30 star systems and more than 400 worlds, none of which have previously been explored. There are rumours that this represents only the hub of the Periphery with many new star systems to be revealed over the coming months.
A whole new frontier awaits whether you are looking for minerals to exploit, trade goods to discover or even to try you hand at privateering (or outright piracy).
|While not under control of any one faction many of the systems are claimed by civilian populations (using our newly launched relations mechanics). They are also sources of modules should people wish to purchase the means to build bases directly from civilian sources (though they are likely to be more expensive than from player controlled markets).
With war raging in other parts of the Peripheries, many of the larger factions already have their hands full. This new region of space gives opportunities for players wanting to be off the beaten track whether as a lone wolf or representative of one of the established affiliations.
Corewards, unlike other Peripheries in the game has been created using newly developed programs. These map out a system by generating worlds based on classifications such as tectonically active, hostile atmospheres, water worlds and even terrestrial environments. The latter are the most interesting in terms of building starbases as they have the ability to support colonisation without first having to deal with terraforming the world. Other worlds however have their merit. Active worlds often have better mineral resources though there are now risks to outposts built to exploit them. It is down to the cunning explorer to determine what is best.
With such a large region of space open to all, there are plenty of frontiers to explore both within the systems, i.e. many moons, but also within the Periphery - the system is designed so that getting from one end to the other, is not quick, so claiming everywhere is not feasible.
For you, this offers a unique opportunity to get involved almost as soon as you start playing. The core players in the big affiliations are busy with the rest of the game to spare enough time to dedicate to this region of space. If you join one of the big affiliations you can pretty much guarantee to play a big role in their assets in Corewards. If you join a small affiliation or even desire to go it alone, you have so much choice of places to explore - the likes of which have not occurred since the first days of Beyond the Stellar Empire - 20 Years Ago!
